Ellise Shafer Elton John revealed that he was not “able to see the performance” of his new West End musical “The Devil Wears Prada” at its charity gala on Sunday night.

According to the BBC, John — who wrote the music for the stage adaptation of the hit film — said at the gala: “I have lost my sight and I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed listening to it.” The 77-year-old went on to thank his husband, David Furnish, “who has been my rock,” The Guardian reported. “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight,” he added. “So it’s hard for me to see it.

But I love to hear it and boy it sounded good tonight.” “The Devil Wears Prada” musical opened at London’s Dominion Theatre in October, with Vanessa Williams playing the unforgiving editor-in-chief Miranda Priestley and Georgie Buckland as new employee Andy Sachs.

Sunday night’s charity event benefitted the Elton John AIDS Foundation and was attended by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour — who is said to be the inspiration behind Priestley — as well as “Emily in Paris” star Lily Collins, fashion designer Donatella Versace and more.
