Investigators probing a deadly house explosion in Edinburgh are examining the internal gas installations at the destroyed property.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Baberton Mains Avenue at around 10.25pm on Friday, December 1, following reports of a powerful blast.An 84-year-old man, named locally as James 'Jimmy' Smith, tragically died.

But hero neighbours were able to pull a 43-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man out alive from the wreckage of their home.They were taken to hospital for treatment but their conditions are not currently known.

The Health and Safety Executive, who are leading the investigation into the cause of the blast, have confirmed it was not related to the wider gas network supply.A spokesperson told the Record: "The focus of our investigation relates to the internal gas installations at the property and not the network.
