Eddie Hearn has revealed Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are “close” to finalising a lucrative heavyweight showdown for May or June of next year.
Joshua cleared the last remaining obstacle blocking his path to a long-awaited battle with Fury earlier this month, knocking out a spirited Kubrat Pulev inside 10 rounds of their bout at Wembley Arena.Now the British rivals, who currently hold every recognised world title in the heavyweight division, are poised to finally meet in 2021 after years of demand.
AJ may have to relinquish his WBO strap to make the fight happen, given Oleksandr Usyk has been named mandatory challenger for that belt, while Deontay Wilder claims Fury is still contractually obliged to rematch him next.
