East Kilbride Rugby Club looking to shake off ring-rust in Carrick clash

East Kilbride Rugby Club coach Craig Brown says a Tennent’s West League 1 clash at Carrick is a great game to come back to after the festive break.The Torrance Park side haven’t been in action since losing 50-0 against Garnock on December 3, but Brown says that has given everybody a chance to recharge their batteries and injured players have had time to recover.And he reckons seventh-placed East Kilbride meeting a Carrick side two spots below them in second-bottom place is a good way to get back to action.Brown said: “It is a great game for us to come back into, considering the break we’ve had.“When we played them last here [43-7 win in September] they were a very young team and I think that belies a lot of their scores, but they have much more experience now, and I’m expecting a much tougher game against them.“We have a lot of rust to shake off, and I would certainly expect us to get back into a winning mind-set, and back into winning ways.“We have Cambuslang the following week, and that will be at home.

They’re always really good games, it was a really competitive game the last time, and this one we’re expecting nothing less.”Brown has used the down-time to take a closer look at the club’s academy set-up, and intends to forge a greater pathway for young stars.He said: “It has been really good time to take a deep breath and get ready for the next part of the season.“It has also given me a little bit of time for me to talk to the guys at the academy.“We’ve got a really good youth set-up here, and I would like to get a lot more synergy through all the way up to the seniors to encourage those players.“When they get to senior rugby they’ve got all their standards already, and that’ll really help them to progress.“That has
