East Kilbride’s Olympia team of nine figure skaters won four medals at the British Championships in Sheffield.In what was one of the most successful British Championships ever for the club, six Olympia skaters also achieved a top-10 finish.Newly-crowned British champion Julian Mullin won the advanced novice boys event, meaning he has earned four British Championships medals, three of which are gold.Ben Crocket won silver in the basic boys event, and has now won two British Championship medals.Jessica McIlvogue took home a shiny silver medal after only competing in the basic novice girls’ events for a year.Mya Milne competed in the advanced novice girls’ showed strength to come back from seventh in the short programme to put out a winning free programme, earning her a second-placed finish in a strong field of 24 ladies, as well as a new personal best score.There were also fantastic skates from Ellie McCann, Olivia Wallace, Rosie Yu and Maria McGowan in the basic novice ladies, and from Mia Johnstone in junior ladies.Results were:Basic novice boys: 2 - Ben Crocket.Basic novice girls: 2 - Jessica McIlvogue; 5 - Ellie McCann; 9 - Olivia Wallace; 19 - Rosie Yu; 21 - Maria McGowan.Advance novice boys: 1 - Julian Mullin.Advance novice girls: 2 - Mya Milne.Junior ladies: 17 - Mia Johnstone.A club spokesperson said: “The road to these championships required each skater to achieve test passes, competition scores, qualifier scores, and being ranked in the top of their groups.
All of this means years of training, on and off the ice, lots of dedication and a love of the sport.“This is one of the most successful British Championships for Olympia.
