DWP says drivers on six benefits can get car tax for free

People paying vehicle tax have been told that in some cases they may qualify for an exemption if they claim certain benefits.

The Department for Work and Pensions has set out rules around whether people who have some disabilities don't have to pay to help them get around.

The DWP said people may not have to pay vehicle tax if either they're a disabled driver or they have a you have a certain type of vehicle.

It adds: "You can only use your exemption on one vehicle at a time. If you have more than one vehicle, you’ll need to choose which one will be exempt from vehicle tax."
