New figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that there are now more than 3.4 million people over the age of 16 claiming Personal Independence Payments (PIP).

However, those statistics do not include people in Scotland who have either transferred from PIP to Adult Disability Payment (ADP), or new claimants of the devolved disability benefit.

A successful claim for PIP or ADP is currently worth between £26.90 and £172.75 each week in additional financial support and as the benefit is paid every four weeks, this amounts to between £107.60 and £691.00 every payment period.

However, from April 8, once the annual uprating has been applied, payments will be worth between £114.80 and £737.20. The 6.7 per cent increase means that existing claimants and people making a new claim for PIP or ADP, could be due up to ££9,583.60 over the 2024/25 financial year, completely tax-free.
