Households across England can get extra help paying their heating bills when temperatures fall below a certain point. Cold Weather Payments, which are paid by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), are a £25 one-off payment given to people who claim certain benefits when it gets especially cold.
The scheme runs between November and March each year and is usually paid out during periods of very cold weather. The first Cold Weather Payments of the year were triggered at the start of the month after areas in the north of England saw temperatures drop during the recent cold snap.
According to the DWP, a total of 18 postcode areas in England are due payments for the period January 2 to January 9. Cold Weather Payments were previously triggered in mid-November.
To check if your postcode will be getting a payment, you can use the DWP's postcode checker on the gov.uk website here. People on certain benefits will receive the cash.
