Devastated Duncan Scott suffered Olympic agony as he missed out on 200m freestyle gold - and a medal of any colour - by a split second.Scott came fourth in an incredible 200m freestyle final that saw the top four split by just 0.15 seconds as Romania’s David Popovici touched the wall first in 1.44.72, followed by Brit Matt Richards in 1.44.74 and American Luke Hobson in third.
Scott - who finished fourth on 1.44.87 - had anguish written all over his face afterwards - three years after he was beaten to gold in the event by team mate Tom Dean by just 0.04 seconds. The Scottish swimming hero, chasing a seventh Olympic medal of his career, still has the 200m individual medley plus at least one other relay to come in Paris.
But there was no hiding his hurt as he said: “That's the wrong place to touch - fourth is pretty rotten for anyone. I’m disappointed.
I’m really happy for Matt. It's, pretty cool for him, from outside line to get a silver.“I think I maybe got caught in the middle of stuff, but it is what it is.
