Team GB cyclist Oliver Wood saw his medal hopes during the men’s Olympic Madison on Saturday dashed due to a horrific crash.
Wood was taken out by a Dutch rider who seemed to lead with his head as he collided into the 28-year-old Brit. This incident cost Team GB a podium spot, with Wood and his teammate Mark Stewart finishing in a disappointing 12th place.
The crash occurred when there were still 40 laps left, as Dutchman Jan-Willem van Schip tried to overtake Wood on the right-hand side.
However, as he passed, Van Schip appeared to cut Wood off and then knocked him off balance with his head.
