Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
Known to be a hand-on, natural mother, Diana broke the mould when it came to being a royal parent wanting her sons William and Harry to experience all the normalities of childhood including theme parks and supermarkets.
And though, of course, she loved her sons dearly, her former protection officer Ken Wharfe reveals exclusively to OK! that even she sometimes found them a "nuisance".
Revealing the moment when he first met Diana at Sandringham in Norfolk, Ken shared that the late Princess told him, "“I don’t envy you doing this, Ken, looking after my children. They can be a bloody nuisance.” Ken shared that this was part of Diana's charm - the incredibly down to earth normal way in which she parented her two boys who were just 12 and 15 when they lost their mother.
Ken reveals: "[Diana] always banged on about wanting to be normal. What she wanted to do with her children was to try to educate them in a way which brought them closer to the real world of life – sleepovers, friends round from school, the cinema, London Underground, Sticky Fingers restaurant, Marks & Spencer." And Diana's hands on approach could not have been more different from the one taken by her husband, Prince Charles. "The prince couldn’t understand it," Ken says.
