Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross has performed another partygate u-turn by claiming Boris Johnson will have to quit after the war is over in Ukraine.Douglas Ross led calls earlier this year for Johnson to resign as Prime Minister in the wake of the Downing Street lockdown party scandal.

He was then mocked after withdrawing his quit call on the eve of his party’s conference in Aberdeen. The dual MSP and MP explained his rethink on the grounds that the UK needed Johnson to deal with the war in Ukraine.

However, after civil servant Sue Gray revealed the full scale of partygate in a report today, Ross has flip flopped again. Speaking to Sky News, he said of the Gray report: “The report that we've seen from Sue Gray today reveals details that no one can be comfortable with - it is a very damaging report."He was then asked repeatedly if he believed Johnson should go once the Ukraine war was over.“The prime minister doesn't have my unqualified support,” he said.He continued: “I changed my position because of the war in Ukraine.

Therefore if the war in Ukraine is over, then the prime minister doesn't have the same support that he has at the moment, not just from me, but from other MPs who previously called for him to resign.”Asked again if he should step down in these circumstances, he said: “Then I think he should step down.” To sign up to the Daily Record Politics newsletter, click here.
