Roadside Attractions said Friday that it has acquired rights to Bob Trevino Likes It, the news coming off the indie comedy drama’s premiere at SXSW where it won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Award.
The pic, written and directed by Tracie Laymon, stars Euphoria‘s Barbie Ferreira, John Leguizamo, French Stewart, Lauren “Lolo” Spencer and Rachel Bay Jones.
Roadside is aiming for an early 2025 theatrical release. Myriad Pictures is repping international sales. Inspired by the true story of a friendship Laymon struck with a stranger when looking for her father online, the film centers on Lily (Ferreira), who longs for a familial connection, having been abandoned by her mother as a child and then by her father in her 20s.
A Facebook message to a stranger named Bob (Leguizamo) turns into a friendship that becomes a source of healing in both their lives.
