Dog stretchered down Ben Nevis in unusual rescue amid sweltering heatwave

A dog had to be stretchered down Ben Nevis in a dramatic rescue mission during the sweltering heatwave. The mountain rescue team were called in after Maggie, a 35kg Akbash, got into difficulty high on the path up Scotland's largest mountain and was unable to move.

The Lochaber stretcher squad, armed with medication and treats, were dispatched to assist after the alarm was raised on Saturday, August 13.Pictures taken from the scene showed Maggie lying on a stretcher after she was located by the rescue team.

As darkness fell, the pooch was secured on a stretcher before she was carried down the mountain.After safely reaching the bottom, Maggie was pictured resting with a bowl of water.

Mountain rescue teams were called out to five separate incidents on Ben Nevis on Saturday, ranging from fractures to heat-related illness.A spokesperson for the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team said: "With everyone out enjoying the scorching weather across Lochaber yesterday, the team were out attending to five call-outs."The first four shouts ranged from fractures to heat related illness, with the fifth casualty of the day being a little furrier than usual."Maggie, a 35kg Akbash dog came into difficulty high on the Ben path and was unable to move.
