An expert has explained how to tell the difference between ‘normal’ ageing and the symptoms of dementia. Figures suggest that some 209,600 people will develop dementia this year in the UK - equivalent to one every three minutes.
It is estimated that there are around 55 million people living with dementia around the globe - but that number is expected to soar to 139 million by 2050.
According to Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK), dementia is the most-feared health condition of nearly half of adults in the UK.
Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia and there is currently no cure. Symptoms for Alzheimer’s disease include memory loss, confusion, disorientation, anxiety and hallucinations, according to the NHS, but other early signs can include problems with communication and changes in mood.
