Disgust as Storm Corrie topples fences at water investigation hit Ayr cemetery

A graveyard where a probe into ‘water ingress’ had taken place has been battered by metal fencing during Storm Corrie.The fencing which was due to be removed today was left “open to the elements” as strong wind smashed into the burial grounds over the weekend.

Mourners at Ayr Cemetery were left distressed when they visited the graves on Sunday with the heras-style 8ft metal fencing landing on top of memorials after being launched into the air by strong gusts.

I am absolutely distraught. “It is starting to seem like they just don’t care, they haven’t been careful at all.”Another relative said: “We are absolutely raging, this should never have happened."To go down there on Sunday and see graves toppled on is just disgusting."It is understood council teams were called out yesterday to assess the damage and remove the remainder of the fencing.
