Disabled Scots man forced to drag himself down stairs after lift breaks down

A disabled Edinburgh man who was trapped in his home due to a broken lift was forced to drag himself down flights of stairs in fear of missing his wedding day.Wheelchair user Chris Purnell, 37, was stuck in his fourth-floor flat for a week because the elevator broke down.

Eventually, he said he felt like he had no choice but to drag himself down several flights of stairs to ensure he could do the same on his big day on September 24.

Determined to make it to his wedding to fiance Sarah he decided to practice the journey downstairs. He said: "I reported the broken lift more than a week ago.

It brought back the whole anxiety of lockdown, when I was stuck in here all that time. "With the wedding just over a week away, I thought, even if I have to crawl I will be there.
