Click inside to read more… Born Mary Donaldson in Hobart, Australia, the Danish royal actually met Frederik at a Sydney pub called the Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympics, and had no idea who he was. “The first time we met we shook hands,” she recalled in a previous interview about their love story. “I didn’t know he was the prince of Denmark.

Half an hour later someone came up to me and said, ‘Do you know who these people are?’” Following their first meeting, Frederik and Mary had a long-distance relationship for the first year of their relationship, and he actually made several secret trips to Australia to see her.

Then, in 2001, Mary moved to Denmark. In 2004, they got married at Copenhagen Cathedral. Mary and Frederik have been married for 17 years and share four children: Prince Christian, 16, Princess Isabella, 14, and 11-year-old twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
