It was suggested that United even weighed up making a move for him last summer, yet were put off by the fee the Hammers wanted for the 23-year-old.
The picture could be different this summer though with Rice entering the final two years of his current deal. It's often at this stage that clubs will look to agree extensions or sell to avoid the player potentially leaving for a reduced fee further down the line.
United might then solidify their interest with an offer this summer, and frankly, it’s easy to see why they would. Rice is a strong and tenacious midfielder who regularly comes out on top in duels both on the floor and in the air.
