A dad says he feels lucky to be alive after suffering a bleed on the brain and a punctured lung in a 'hit and run' in north Manchester.

Teacher Andrew Holroyd, 50, spent a week in hospital with a series of nasty injuries following the horror smash in Higher Blackley last month.

Experienced cyclist Andrew was riding home from work when a VW Golf which was turning right off Victoria Avenue crossed his path and ploughed into him.

He was shunted into a nearby van and was thrown off his bike and over its bonnet, landing on his head. As he lay stricken in the road the car drove off and the occupants still haven't been traced.
