Critics of town's 'wonky' Christmas tree silenced as locals save it from the axe

The residents of an Ayrshire town are sending a powerful festive message - that beauty can be found in imperfection.That's after locals discovered that Kilwinning's Christmas tree had one too many mulled wines before being placed in the town centre.While some claimed that the tree 'bring the town into disrepute' an overwhelming majority have chosen to embrace the squint tree ahead of Kilwinning's big festive switch-on next Saturday.Kilwinning councillor Donald Reid put the issues to residents last night and said that an alternative could be used.Councillor Reid said: "The Kilwinning Christmas tree is in and is set up perfectly straight from the front with a perfect shape."However as the tree has settled is went wonky as someone has described it.

After consideration with those looking after Christmas this year in Kilwinning the tree was deemed a lovely tree and perfect from the front and in general. "Although a few comments have come in expressing dissatisfaction so it is scheduled to be replaced tomorrow but I’ve had folk ask me to save the lovely tree and leave it in position. "So what’s your feeling bearing in mind the alternative tree is still in netting and until installed we can’t be sure will be as nicely shaped.

Do you mind the backwards list which probably will never be seen from behind."If the tree is swapped it won’t be lost it will still be used elsewhere although not in such a prominent location."But locals have backed the wonky tree in a bid to show that 'nothing in life is perfect'.One resident said: "Keep that lovely Leaning Tree of Kilwinning, I love it."Another added: "Nothing in life is perfect, great symbol, leave it as it is, love it."A third said: "Love it!
