Councillors mounted a bid to stop plans to build a new swimming pool in Ayr town centre. South Ayrshire Council has announced a proposal to erect a £36.5 million leisure centre in the Arran Mall area to replace the Citadel.But Conservative politicians want the rundown South Harbour Street pool to receive a £9 million makeover instead.
The councillors also want to stall a £7.2 million sports arena project in Craigie.Expressing concerns about the ventures, Councillor Ian Davis, Conservative, said: “We don’t believe a swimming pool in the town centre is going to fix the town centre woes.“Money should be invested in the current facility.
