Coronavirus: What is the difference between quarantine and self-isolation?

As the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise worldwide, health officials are encouraging people to do everything they can to limit the spread of the disease.

The NHS says the best thing you can do is wash your hands frequently with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your mouth or eyes as much as you can, and use hand sanitiser when soap and water isn’t available.

In many countries more serious measures are being taken to curb the spread of COVID-19. Self isolation and quarantine are methods being used to protect others from the spread of the infectious disease.

Here we explain the difference between the two terms. The two terms are quite similar, but they can’t be used interchangeable.
