Swindon has seen a worrying surge in new coronavirus cases, with more than 100 testing positive in seven days, new figures show.

Public Health England data reveals that the Wiltshire town has seen its new cases rate rise to 45.9 per 100,000 - making it the sixth-worst affected area in the country.

The figures also show that Stoke-on-Trent and Bury have seen dramatic rises compared to the previous week. Oldham remains top of the hotspot list in spite of a sharp fall in the seven days to Tuesday, the most recent figures available.

Pendle, Blackburn with Darwen, Leicester and Bradford make up the top five - but all of them have falling coronavirus infection rates.
