The coronavirus second wave appears to be increasingly gravitating south in England. The latest figures, showing infections in each area for the week up to November 30, show 11 of the top 20 hotspots are now in the South.

This is in stark contrast to the summer and autumn, where the North West, Yorkshire and the North East bore the brunt of the second wave.

Medway and Swale in Kent are now the two worst-hit areas, with rates of 582 and 562 per 100,000 people respectively. Thanet, Maidstone, Dover and Gravesham, also all in Kent, are also in the top 10.

Basildon in Essex and three areas of East London - Havering, Barking and Dagenham, and Redbridge - also featured in the top 20, along with Slough in Berkshire.
