Police in Cambridgeshire have struggled to break up a mass gathering of partygoers at a spontaneous rave. Around 300 revellers are believed to have gathered in the Paston area of Peterborough on Monday night, many of them intoxicated.

Dozens of officers were scrambled to the site after receiving reports of around 20 to 30 people and seven to eight cars as people broke the coronavirus lockdown with a street party.

But when police arrived they found hundreds had descended on the spot at around 9pm. Completely overwhelmed, officers decided there were too few police to move the crowds on safely.

Just after 10pm, the ambulance service contacted police to say someone had suffered minor injuries after being hit by a vehicle.
