A baby just days old who was not thought to have any underlying health conditions died after contracting Covid-19, NHS bosses said.

The tragic 13-day-old infant is one of the UK's youngest victims since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. NHS England confirmed that the baby boy died on Monday.

The UK's coronavirus death toll stands at 42,288 after 135 fatalities were announced by the Department of Health today. Sheffield Children's Hospital had earlier confirmed that a child had died on Monday after being admitted in a critical condition.

The hospital, which has not confirmed the age of the child, said that they had tested positive for Covid-19 but the cause of death had not been determined.
