Coronation Street star Mo Moreland, who hailed from Sheffield, had been battling a long-term illness and died in a North Shore nursing home.
Her adoring fans are now expressing their condolences online. Despite only appearing twice on Coronation Street, Mo's most famous role was alongside comedian Les Dawson in The Roly Polys.
Tracy, Les Dawson's widow, led the tributes to Mo as she told The Gazette Mo was "like a mum and a sister my best friend and confident".
She added: "Mo lived with my daughter Charlotte and I and helped me bring Charlotte up. She was a great comfort when I lost Less and I will really miss her." Irish comedian James Mulgrew also paid tribute, saying: "Mo was a real pocket rocket a true star who was also a great friends, who came to my 40th and 50th birthday parties."
