Coronation Street's Billy Mayhew suspended from clergy following church wedding with Paul Foreman

Coronation Street scenes have recently seen Billy Mayhew suspended from the church clergy following his wedding with his husband Paul Foreman.The couple married in an emotional episode earlier this week after they decided they'd tie the knot just weeks prior.

However, vicar Billy assumed there may be consequences for having a same-sex church wedding with his fears coming true in Tuesday's episode of the soap.The loved-up newly-weds were looking at their wedding pictures when they noticed one snap of them exchanging rings was missing from the pile reports Digital Spy.The mystery was quickly solved when the Bishop arrived with the missing print and revealed that it had been left behind in the church.

The bishop warned that whilst Paul and Billy's wedding was technically against the rules of the church, he would be willing to turn a blind eye given Paul's MND diagnosis.Unfortunately, Billy later discovered that the churchwarden had posted about the wedding on social media and was soliciting comments on whether it was appropriate.Billy attempted to jump on the offensive by giving a radio interview where he defended his decision to marry Paul in a church.The vicar apologised to anyone who may have been offended but refused to say he was sorry for marrying the man he loved.Despite the drama, Paul, Summer and Bernie were beaming with pride while listening to the radio interview, Billy soon fielded a call from the bishop announcing he'd been suspended from the clergy indefinitely.Earlier this week, cast member Daniel Brocklebank spoke about the impact the suspension would have on Billy."Luckily, for now, Billy is still being paid, so that's good!
