Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver is taking a break from the ITV soap to star in a hit musical. The 60 year old actress, who has played much-loved Cobbles character Eileen Grimshaw since 2000, has landed a role in the stage version of popular film Sister Act.
It is not the first time that Sue has stepped away from Coronation Street, as she starred in 2022’s I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.The official Sister Act The Musical Instagram account announced Sue’s role in the show this week.Their statement said: "Praise the lord - Sue Cleaver is swapping the cobbles for the convent! "Sue will be playing the role of Mother Superior in Sister Act The Musical* in 2024." Sue also took to Instagram to share the news, posting: "Holy Moly… Praise The Lord… Hallelujah…It’s Nun other than the truth… "After 20+ years away from the theatre, I am appearing in Sister Act next year!!!" An ITV source told The Sun that Sue was "taking a very very short break, just like other cast members have done in the past”.
Last month it was also reported that Sue was set to join an all-star cast on a new series of BBC reality show Pilgrimage.The star was said to be taking time away from the ITV soap to appear on the BBC Two show - although she has no plans to leave permanently.
Pilgrimage is a religious reality show that sees celebrities of different faiths and beliefs come together for a trek along an ancient pilgrimage route.
