Coronation Street legend Julie Goodyear is 'quite happy', according to her close friend Mark Llewellin as he gave fans an update on the much-loved star after it was announced she'd been diagnosed with dementia.

Julie, from Bury, is best known for portraying Bet Lynch in the ITV soap. She first appeared in Weatherfield as Bet for just nine episodes in 1966, before becoming a series regular from 1970 to 1995 where she became a favourite among fans as the leopard print-wearing barmaid.

Julie later returned for eight episodes in 2002 and another seven in 2003. The 81-year-old's husband Scott Brand announced her diagnosis in June last year.

She was struggling with a number of symptoms over the years before getting diagnosed. Her husband was heartbroken as he revealed it would get "progressively, and perhaps speedily, worse".
