Coronation Street's Gail Platt's exit storyline 'revealed' – and it includes legendary character
ok.co.ukCoronation Street fans were left gutted when Helen Worth announced her departure as Gail Platt from the cobbles after 50 years earlier this year, and now it looks like her exit storyline has been ‘revealed’.
According to The Sun, Gail will rekindle her romance with Martin Platt and sail off into the sunset. Sean Wilson, who played Martin left the soap in 2005, but the storyline will reportedly see a return for the character.
Martin and Gail’s relationship came to an end when he had an affair, although out of the character’s six marriages, he’s considered the most successful.
However, a number of options were reportedly considered for the beloved character’s departure, in an attempt to celebrate her five decades on screen. “A number of options were considered for Gail’s departure from the cobbles but bosses knew the moment needed to truly celebrate one of Corrie’s most iconic characters as well as honour Helen’s astonishing run on the soap,” an insider told the publication. “It just didn’t sit right to kill her off or have Gail suffer more tragedy after, let’s face it, a pretty traumatic life. “Martin was always considered the one that got away and bosses are thrilled they’ve been able to tempt Sean back to wave Gail goodbye,” the source continued.
