Royal fashion protocol has been completely ripped up at the coronation of King Charles, historian Rosie Harte has said. Speaking exclusively to OK!, Rosie – the author of the upcoming book The Royal Wardrobe – explained that Charles has done away with some of the usual expectations of what should be worn at a coronation.

She said: "Traditionally, all attending royal guests, all attending nobility and members of the royal family from here and abroad, would wear tiaras and they would wear robes, so robes similar to that which we're seeing Queen Camilla wearing." Tiaras are one thing that has been noticeably absent from this historical ceremony, with Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, opting for a crystal and silver threadwork three-dimensional leaf embroidery headpiece instead.

Rosie further explained: "Protocol has been ripped up and completely transformed. Everyone is dressed way more casually than we would have seen t older coronations and at the Queen's coronation, for example. "Protocol has been completely scrapped and it's all being redefined at the moment." She added that despite this change in dress for guests and other royals, Charles kept to tradition with his own regalia.

Discussing Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie's outfits, Rosie added that these are less formal than would usually be expected at a coronation.
