Competitive eater dies during livestream challenge to eat 10kg of food

An extreme eater died during a livestream. Pan Xiaoting was attempting to eat 10kg of food when she passed away in front of her horrified fans.The 24-year-old, who is known for her competitive eating, was shovelling down food on camera when tragedy struck.

An autopsy is said to have found the ex-waitress' stomach was "deformed" and was full of "undigested food".The influencer's livestreams often lasted as long as 10 hours, despite her loved ones and parents warning her against the extreme eating challenges.

Tragedy struck on July 14, 2024, while the Chinese national was taking part in a 'Mukbang'. The Mirror reports Mukbang hosts consume food on camera, often while interacting with fans in real time.

Mukbang's originated in South Korea in the mid-2000s and quickly became a global trend, particularly over the last decade. According to China News, Pan was known for her lengthy Mukbang-style videos.It's claimed she was previously hospitalised for gastrointestinal bleeding but continued streaming eating challenges.
