What’s this season’s colour?’ How quaint, I always thought. This season’s colour was, of course, black. Just as it was last season and the next.Back then, black was supreme.
It made you look sophisticated, ie, from Manhattan (not that anyone is actually from Manhattan). It made you look thinner, richer (presumably because it meant no one noticed that you’d worn the same jacket four weeks in a row), and it made you look as though you were burdened down with ennui, which, in case you wondered, was a good thing.
