Natalie Tredgett is a firm believer in the power of colour to elevate a room. ‘Contrasting colours can be sharp when the intensity of the hue is paired with an equally intense colour that sits on the opposite side of the colour wheel, such as red and green,’ she says. ‘Clashing colours are within the same colour range, but are opposite on the hue spectrum, such as pink with red and army greens with acid greens.

When you use them together, each colour is more intense and elevates the energy in a space.’She also believes that using colours that contrast and clash can, in fact, be soothing: ‘The more colour you use, the calmer the effect; using just a pop of colour [in a more neutral room] is often more intense.
