Ethan Shanfeld Cole Escola, the playwright and original star of “Oh, Mary!,” is returning to the hit Broadway show in the title role of Mary Todd Lincoln starting April 8.
Escola will be joined by fellow original cast members Conrad Ricamora as Mary’s Husband (also known as Abraham Lincoln) and James Scully as Mary’s Teacher, bringing the entire original onstage cast back to the Lyceum Theatre just in time for Tony voting.
The duration of Escola’s reprisal is unclear. Tickets are available here. “Oh, Mary!” follows Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to her husband’s assassination.
It has nothing to do with the Civil War or politics, but focuses rather on Mary’s burning desire to perform. In our review, Variety described the show as “the best kind of stupid: a broad, wildly funny comedy that spits in the face of American history and uses it as joke fodder for some endlessly campy humor.” Directed by Tony Award nominee Sam Pinkleton, “Oh, Mary!” opened on Broadway on July 11, 2024, after a sold-out Off-Broadway run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
