With a face carved from the granite of the American West, weathered as the high plains, Clint Eastwood celebrates his birthday next Sunday looking every one of his 90 years.

Age has caught up with the man whose legendary catchphrases and piercing stare made him one of the planet’s biggest stars. But is he worried?

Nope. Is he quitting acting? Nah. Does he think he’s lucky? Yep. There is plenty of life in this old dog yet, he insists. Yet as the milestone approaches he recalls with a chuckle hanging out with his own 90-year-old grandfather and thinking: “Who the hell would want to live this long?” As he laughs, his eyes squint narrower than ever.
