Clean up continues in Perth and Kinross following Storm Babet flood chaos

Perth and Kinross residents are still dealing with the wreckage left in the wake of Storm Babet.In Invergowrie, residents on and around Station Road and Boniface Road were evacuated from their homes by boat due to the flooding mayhem.The HM Coastguard teams from Dundee and St Andrews helped “numerous” people to safety.

Many were directed to a council rest centre set up at Peter Arbuckle Place sheltered housing near the village park.The local community also opened a safe spot at Bullionfield Hall on Main Street to support displaced residents.Ken Clark (74) witnessed the flooding first hand from his house on Boniface Place and said at its worst the floodwater reached near shoulder height.Ken has lived on his street with wife Anne for 34 years and can’t recall such an “exceptional” flood in his neighbourhood.“As we woke up on the Friday morning and looked out the window we found the back garden full of water and Station Road was deep in water,” he recalled.“A flood happened here before in 2004 - but nothing this bad.“There were quite a few cars on the street, at least half a dozen possibly more, that you could see the roof and no more.

I think they have been ruined.“While the house was surrounded at one point by the water, it never actually got in.“The coastguard came a couple of times and offered to take us out but my wife and I decided to wait it out.“We have been quite lucky.”Ken believes debris swept along the engorged Invergowrie Burn blocked the nearby bridge between Burnside Road and Station Road, causing a massive overflow of water.He said there was at least an inch and a half of mud left on pavements and roads after the water receded.“It is not pleasant,” he added. “The council have been down here clearing out the
