Chester Zoo's Lantern and Lights trail has reopened for 2024, and so we headed along to see how it's all looking. Bosses say this year's trail is longer than ever, and it takes visitors on a journey through a "number of vibrant lands".
You book a time slot for entry after dusk, and then follow a route through the zoo with a number of light installations as well as magical light up animal puppets prowling along beside you on the way.
I headed along with my nine-year-old and four-year-old sons for our first time at the event. I've seen pictures of it over the years and heard families talk about just how magical it was so I was excited to see it all for myself. As when you head along at nightfall for the Lanterns and Light event, all of the real-life zoo animals have long since gone to bed which my kids were a little upset about.
