Chelsea, it’s fair to say, have a decidedly hit-and-miss record in the transfer market in recent years. There have been some extraordinarily successful purchases - Eden Hazard and Diego Costa spring to mind - but there have also been some very questionable decisions made, money spent where it ought not to have been, with little or no return.
