People struggling to pay their Council Tax during the ongoing cost of living crisis are being encouraged to check if they are eligible for money off their new bill which starts this month.
The Council Tax Reduction (CTR) scheme is unique to Scotland and helps people on low incomes save an average of £750 a year off their bill.
Those eligible can also save up to 35 per cent on their water and waste charges. The latest figures published by the Scottish Government show 457,140 households received a CTR in February 2023, which means around one-in-five households were saving money through the scheme.
The new Council Tax year always starts in April and bills were sent out early in March, but if you haven't checked if you might qualify for a CTR, now is the time to do it.
