The cost of living is going to soar even higher on Friday (April 1), with the energy price cap rising, new council tax rates and increasing National Insurance.

The average household energy bill will rise by 54 percent, costing an extra £693 a year. The government is helping around 28 million households with the increasing costs, saying it will provide £350 to the 'vast majority' affected.

A council tax rebate, an upfront loan on energy bills and a £150m fund for local authorities are some of the measures being introduced.
