Nearly 40 police officers were injured as violent riots erupted on the streets of Southport. Swathes of rioters, many armed with bricks and bottles, took to the streets following a frenzied stabbing attack on children on Monday at a Taylor Swift-themed holiday club.
Police were initially called to St Luke’s Road after a nearby mosque was targeted following a vigil. The North West Ambulance Service declared a major incident as the chaotic scenes unfolded, with 27 police officers taken to hospital from the scene.

27 were taken to hospital and 12 were treated and discharged at scene." Merseyside Police said eight officers suffered serious injuries including fractures, lacerations, a suspected broken nose, and a concussion.
