Violent disorder that has erupted in towns and cities across England and Northern Ireland looks set to take place in Scotland on Friday.Posting on social media site TikTok, an account named the Scottish Defence Group – which had around 2,300 followers but has now been deleted – told people in Paisley to attend a “peaceful protest about hundreds of illegal fighting age men being housed in our communities that are a danger to our children”.Attendees are told to meet at 6.30pm in the town with the exact location to be revealed one hour before.
The group has also organised similar events in Aberdeen, East Kilbride, Glasgow and Greenock for this weekend. The post had been viewed more than 50,000 times.
Among a host of high-profile incidents across the UK, yobs smashed their way into a hotel in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, housing asylum seekers and started a fire.Police officers have been attacked and shops looted with hundreds of people arrested.
Now a protest – and counter demonstration – have been planned for Paisley in echoes of numerous incidents outside the Muthu Glasgow River Hotel in Erskine.In response, Stand Up To Racism (SUTR) has organised a counter-protest to show solidarity with those they feel are being targeted by the Scottish Defence Group.A Renfrewshire activist from SUTR said: “The level of violence against refugees and Muslims across England over the last week is highly concerning.
