Inquest hearings are to be moved whilst work is carried out on a Greater Manchester court. Starting this week (January 6), the South Manchester Coroner's Court building in Stockport has been closed for the next three months for 'essential maintenance.' The court carries out inquiries into the sudden, unexplained, or unnatural deaths of people living in the boroughs of Stockport, Tameside and Trafford.
Hearings normally take place at the court building on Mount Tabor Street off the A6 in the town centre. However it has now been closed to the public until March 28 this year.
A spokesperson for Stockport Council said the refurbishment would 'increase the court capacity and to improve access to the building.' Whilst the work is carried out, hearings are being moved to a nearby council building.
They will take place in Fred Perry House on Edward Street, next to Stockport Town Hall. "The phone lines to the office will be open as usual," the council added.
