A car park is to be dug up in the search for a missing Royal Navy sailor feared to be a victim of a serial killer.Detectives are digging up the area in Gibraltar as part of their investigations into the disappearance of Able Seaman Simon Parkes.
The then 18-year-old vanished 37 years ago.The Royal Navy sailor was last seen in December 1986 when the ship he was serving on, HMS Illustrious, was docked in British territory.
The sailor is thought to have been murdered by 'Royal Navy serial killer' Petty Officer Allan Grimson, who was serving on the aircraft carrier and who may have killed up to 20 men.Grimson was jailed for life in 2001 after being found guilty of the murders of two young men.
The killer is up for parole next month.Simon’s heartbroken elderly mum, Margaret Parkes, 78, has never given up hope of finding her son, reports the Mirror.She said: “We’ve gone through quite a few of these over the years and we just hope something will be found this time but have to be careful not to be too disappointed if it’s not.
