Three things which have nothing in common except they were all the subject of legal battles fought and lost by Manchester City Council in the past six months.

Like all local authorities, Manchester is often in need of lawyers on a wide range of matters and the budget for legal services for 2020/21 is £6.5million.

The authority has its own team of in-house lawyers, but it also spends a substantial amount on hiring outside services. An analysis by the M.E.N of council spending over £500 for 2020 shows just over £1.1million went on external 'legal fees'.
