Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Brazil, which is having a banner start of the year with Walter Salles’ “I’m Still Here” nominated for three Academy Awards including best picture, has been named country of honor for the upcoming edition of the Cannes Film Market.
It will run alongside the 78th Festival de Cannes, from May 13-21. The showcase on Brazil is being organized by the Ministry of Culture of Brazil, and in collaboration with the Instituto Guimarães Rosa and the Embassy of Brazil in Paris to showcase the diversity and strength of its film and audiovisual industry.
Brazil’s leading filmmakers, producers and other industry players are expected to attend the market whose key programs will include film and documentary work-in-progress showcases, exclusive networking events and presentations of new international co-production initiatives.
The full lineup details will be announced in the coming months. The focus, which follows last year’s spotlight on Switzerland, is also part of a cultural exchange initiative called Brazil-France Season that celebrates the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
