Camilla has stepped into her new role as Queen Consort with 'extraordinary grace' but it has not 'been easy for her', according to a royal expert.

The 74 year old has taken on the new role in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's death, with her husband King Charles III, 73, becoming the new reigning monarch.

Following King Charles' official proclamation on 10 September in the State Apartments of St James's Palace, royal expert Elizabeth Buchanan, formerly Private Secretary to the Prince of Wales, praised Camilla.

Speaking on BBC One, Elizabeth: "The Queen Consort came from a very normal background and she’s stepped up and into this role with extraordinary grace and dignity.
